SystemsLink Staff Spotlight: Head of Solutions
Next up in our Staff Spotlight series is one of the newest members of the team; our Head of Solutions – James Morrison.
Despite being a newbie, he’s already made a big impact supporting our TPI client base, and although it’s early days, we’re confident he’s going to really help our business grow and our customers thrive in a positive way.

What does your role involve?
My role is primarily focused around developing and delivering the commercial offering that SystemsLink can offer to both end users & consultants.
That is achieved through the combination of selling our excellent software solutions and pairing that with the plethora of energy services that we can offer alongside it, to offer a true one stop shop for energy and sustainability solutions.
How long have you worked for SystemsLink?
I am a newbie and only started in March this year!
What inspired you to pursue the career you have today?
I love working with people primarily, so my roles in sales have always had a strong people focus. Building a successful relationship is both challenging and rewarding in equal measures, and something I thrive on.
What’s the best career lesson you’ve learned so far?
Always try to think empathetically in order to problem solve and find solutions that work. With people you want to work with for a long time, that tends to go a long way to earning respect and leaving doors open to you.
What do you like most about your job?
The variety of different types of energy challenges and needs that we can help businesses with, and add real value. It also feels very relevant, as most of our solutions are linked to real life challenges like reducing business costs and the net zero agenda.
What has been your favourite project at SystemsLink?
It’s still early days, but so far I have enjoyed the collaboration with other parts of our business and group to create cross purpose propositions and services that will add real value alongside our software.
I am fortunate that our business is full of people with a can-do attitude and are passionate about what they do, which means reaching out to people for knowledge and understanding doesn’t feel like you are inconvenience at all.
What are the challenges you’ve faced in the industry?
Having worked for B2B energy suppliers for several years I have encountered lots of challenges, varying from the recent volatile wholesale market conditions to the rapid growth of the TPI sector.
I would say the hardest challenge of all though was the pandemic, managing a sales team during that period really taught a lot about myself.
And finally, if you could have a superpower, what would it be?
Granting wishes – not for myself but for friends and family. Well maybe if I could have one wish for myself – it would be to see Sheffield Wednesday play in the Premier League again!
