SystemsLink Staff Spotlight: Product Director
This month’s SystemsLink’s Staff Spotlight is a super special one as we welcome a new member to the team.
Adam De Benedictis has joined SystemsLink as our new Product Director and has over 10 years’ experience and knowledge in the energy industry.
Adam has previously worked for Network Rail, as the Regional Energy & Carbon Manager, using our Energy Manager software to manage and monitor energy consumption for the organisation.
Previous roles include Sustainability Co-Ordinator and Energy Manager for the likes of Cardiff Council, and he has a Masters Degree in Environmental Design of Buildings.
He has been using our energy software products himself for over a decade, so has a wealth of understanding of our product range, not to mention proficient industry know-how which clients can benefit from.
We’re really excited to have him come on-board; so without further ado, learn more about Adam and his role…
Job Summary
My job involves directing the upgrade of our Energy Manager software, which I am really excited about. Alongside this I am involved in development of business intelligence applications to really unlock the true potential of energy data to drive improved decision making for our customers.
What inspired you to pursue the career you have today?
I have been a customer and user of SystemsLink software for over 10 years and could not turn down the opportunity to be part of working with the company and to hopefully add value to our products!
What’s the best career lesson you’ve learned so far?
“When you have exhausted all possibilities, remember this – you haven’t.” – Thomas Edison
What’s your biggest accomplishment to date; in and outside of work?
Inside work I would say my biggest achievement was delivery of the hydroelectric scheme at Radyr Weir. The scheme was the largest of its kind in the UK. It ensured a steady income for Cardiff Council during difficult economic times as well as generating a significant amount of renewable energy. The scheme had many tight constraints in terms of time and specification!
Outside of work my greatest achievement are my two children who keep me in check!
What are the challenges you’ve faced in the industry?
Part of the reason I joined SystemsLink was associated with this point. Often, I find we collect a lot of data in the industry, but lose sight of why, and how we can improve our decision making and improve asset knowledge and performance in an easy way.
What is your favourite pastime?
I try and get to the gym 3-4 times a week as well as playing 5 a side football. I also enjoy DIY and built an office in my garden during lockdown.
What is your definition of success?
I don’t believe success is ever really achieved. I like the saying “Success is never owned, it’s rented, and the rent is due every day”.
What is your vision and goals for in five years’ time?
I would like to think in 5 years I can look back and say I have added value to SystemsLink and ultimately the energy industry by being part of the decarbonisation and energy reduction journey we are all on.
If you could have a superpower, what would it be?
Got to be time travel, doesn’t it? Would be amazing to experience past events like the building of the pyramids, dinosaurs etc in real life!
And finally, if you could switch jobs with anyone else in the world, who would you pick and why?
I’m fascinated by big entrepreneurs, the likes of Elon Musk for example. We all have a perception of how they are, but I would like to experience a day in their life to see just how active they are in their businesses and experience the impact their decision making has.
Once again, a huge welcome to Adam as the newest addition to the team.
