Staff Spotlight: Implementation Project Manager

The next employee to feature in our Staff Spotlight series is one of our Implementation Project Managers- Drew Gallagher.

Drew has worked for the Group for almost four years now; initially with Digital Energy, and now for SystemsLink’s IPM team which has tripled in size over the last 12 months.

He brings with him a wealth of project management and planning experience, in addition to vast industry knowledge that enable our clients to fully benefit from our software.

And more recently he has been liaising with many of our customers to migrate their Energy Manager application to a fast new, upgraded cloud-based platform.

We sat down with Drew to share some insights into his role and his career path so far.

 

What does your role involve?

The IPM team are focused on implementation of SystemsLink software with all our customers. We help new customers get up and running as quickly and efficiently as possible, and work with existing customers to review and optimise their systems.

It’s a role with a lot of variety, even across a single implementation. From project analysis and planning, through to data design, workflow analysis and tailored training.

How long have you worked for SystemsLink?

I’ve worked for SystemsLink for a little over a year now, but joined the IPM team in November, and was with Digital Energy for 2 years before that.

What inspired you to pursue the career you have today?

I was the kind of kid who liked taking things apart to see how they worked. I love problem solving and learning new skills and that led to working my way up through support desks and service delivery, digging into support processes, providing training, and writing documentation. Joining the IPM team has felt like a natural progression of that.

What’s the best career lesson you’ve learned so far?

Don’t be afraid to ask stupid questions. It’s often the quickest way to get to the crux of the problem. Asking questions and listening carefully to what people say (or don’t) is the key to a good working relationship.

What do you like most about your job?

Every day brings a new challenge. The software and systems we provide have a wide range of applications, and our customers are incredibly varied. A large part of my job is tailoring the systems to specific requirements, and that means there’s always something new to learn, which is important to me.

What has been your favourite project at SystemsLink?

We’ve worked on a couple of big implementations at the beginning of this year that were a real collaborative effort. We have a great team here with a lot of knowledge and experience from different backgrounds, and it’s genuinely a pleasure to work closely across departments on projects like that.

What are the challenges you’ve faced in the industry?

It’s a turbulent time in the energy market right now, so there’s been a steep learning curve as someone coming into the sector from a general tech background.

And finally, if you could have a superpower, what would it be?

Talk to animals. I want to know what my dog has to say.
