Senior Consultant

The next colleague to feature in our Staff Spotlight series is Jennie Blake, SystemsLink’s Senior Consultant.

Jennie’s role involves working with our Associates, helping to deliver training to make sure our software is able to be used effectively.

Using SystemsLink’s products for 19 years, she is uniquely positioned to understand and explain the process to others, whilst bringing a strong attention to detail and experience working with figures.

We asked Jennie:

What does your job entail?

In my current role, I lead and support a team of Associates, providing guidance, structure, and oversight to ensure consistent, high-quality delivery. A key part of my work involves delivering training on SystemsLink, helping colleagues build confidence and capability in using core systems effectively and efficiently. I take a hands-on approach to training, focusing on clear, practical instruction that reflects real working scenarios. Alongside this, I head up the Assurance Services Support Team, working to support the Continuous Improvement Group. This role involves maintaining standards, strengthening processes, and ensuring that support functions operate reliably and in line with expectations.

How long have you worked for SystemsLink?

I joined SystemsLink in February 2025, so it’s been just over a year now. However, I’ve been using SystemsLink as a user since 2007, so I’ve had quite a long association with the system.

What inspired you to pursue the career you have today?

I started my career working in accounts, where I developed a strong attention to detail and a real aptitude for working with figures. I particularly enjoyed spotting discrepancies and understanding what the data was telling me. Those skills translated naturally into working within the energy bureau environment, where analysing energy data and identifying anomalies is a key part of the role. Over time this naturally led me to work more closely with energy management systems such as SystemsLink.

What’s the best career lesson you’ve learned so far?

One of the best lessons I’ve learned is that clear communication is just as important as good analysis. You can have all the right data or technical knowledge, but the real value comes from making sure people understand it and can act on it effectively.

What do you like most about your job?

What I enjoy most about my role is working closely with clients and helping them get the most out of their energy data, while also heading up the assurance team and supporting colleagues to ensure our processes run smoothly. Whether it’s supporting clients with SystemsLink, improving reporting, or helping identify anomalies in energy consumption, it’s rewarding to know the work contributes to better energy management and more informed decision-making.

What has been the most exciting project at SystemsLink?

One of my favourite projects has been working with the Institute of Cancer Research. They were looking for an Energy Manager, and it was rewarding to see how well the Associate Programme matched their needs. Visiting the labs and gaining an insight into the important work taking place there made it especially meaningful, and it was satisfying to help them focus on improving energy efficiency in such a vital environment.

What are the challenges you’ve faced in the industry?

One of the main challenges is navigating the complexity of energy data and regulations, while also helping clients prioritise energy alongside other business pressures.

If you could have a superpower, what would it be?

I’d probably choose the ability to pause time. The kids are growing up far too quickly, and it would be great to have the chance to slow things down and properly enjoy those everyday moments with them – whether that’s helping with homework, playing games, or just spending time together without everything feeling so rushed. It would also be nice to occasionally hit pause to catch my breath and stay on top of life’s never-ending to-do list!

What do you like to do outside of work?

I’m someone who really enjoys keeping active and making the most of my time outside of work. I play netball when I can, which is a great way to switch off, stay a bit competitive and catch up with friends at the same time. I’ve also been lucky enough to have had some fantastic holidays over the years – I love travelling, experiencing new places and creating lasting memories along the way.

Most importantly though, I really enjoy being a mum. Life can be busy and sometimes feels quite full-on, but I genuinely value the everyday moments and watching the kids grow up. Outside of work I’m usually balancing family life, trying to stay active, and making sure we still find time to relax and enjoy things together.
