Public buildings in England and Wales with a greater total floor area than 250m² are required to showcase their energy use with a Display Energy Certificate (DEC).
This includes buildings occupied by a public authority and frequently visited by the public, such as schools, councils and the NHS. Although a valuable resource which showcases energy usage of buildings to the public, ensuring compliance and remaining current on your renewal dates across your buildings can be challenging – especially with large and complex portfolios.
Energy Performance of Buildings reforms – what can be expected?
Maintaining a compliant portfolio is a state of constant motion – new data is added, certificates come up for renewal and information requires accessible storage.
Moreover, changes are in the horizon for DECs. One of the proposed reforms of the government’s Energy Performance of Buildings regime consultation was to reduce the validity period of DECs and DEC recommendation reports from 10 years to 7 for buildings between 250-1,000m².
Although the outcome of this consultation is yet to be announced, a dynamic software solution helps to ensure you remain compliant in the evolving regulatory landscape.
This is where we can help
Available to all approved Energy Assessors, SystemsLink’s Operational Rating Toolkit helps produce thousands of DECs and Advisory Reports each year.
Many seemingly similar building compliance software solutions exist out there but humbly speaking, our Toolkit flaunts quite a few perks when compared to conventional DEC packages. These include:
- Our site, building and project database allows you to navigate existing records with ease and simplifies the production of second year certificates.
- Integrated with our Energy Management software for convenient retrieval of building consumption data.
- User profiles you can create to store certified assessor’s information.
- Visual progress bars to help you stay on track of completed sections.
- League tables to showcase your DEC grades, ratings and due dates.
And that’s not all! Our software integrates with accredited lodgement bodies, making your DEC submission a seamless process.
Don’t just take our word for it!
Many SystemsLink clients make use of our DEC solution. One of them is Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council whose in-house assessor team has found the Toolkit a “fantastic” resource for time efficiency.
